FORMATIVE AREA
Open-Air Installations

In the open-air of the Farm, the visitor can enjoy the following route:

  • Wind Turbines: there are 24 machines of 9 different models. This is Sotavento´s informative and educational offer on wind subject matter.
  • The Tarabelas Forest: the "tarabelas" are traditionally used to protect the crops from birds.
  • The Windgauge Forest: windgauges are used to learn about the direction and speed of the wind. Sotavento´s windgauges can reach a length of 7 m.
  • The Mámoas: 9 burial mouds of the Megalithic period.
  • Eolo-Experiences: this is an area used for the exposure of curious inventions related to energetic transformations, made of recycled materials.
  • Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Panels: it is a real installation allocated to the energetic explotation of the building.
  • Wind Route: the Wind Route occupies part of the surface of the farm. It is made up of sculptures made of scraps from the mine and thermic power station at As Pontes (presure pipes, coal silo, etc) These craps are transformed and aesthetically treated to spread renewable energies.
  • Stones Route: along the route, we can appreciate the galician geological wealth, in a permanent and unique exhibition of the most representative stones of the galician geology came out by the Museum of Natural History "Luis Iglesias" of the University of Santiago.
  • Energetic crops area: Test-demostration of the production of this type of energetic source made by the Department of Study of soils of the University of Santiago, made up of 16 different energetic crops.
