Project: Supervision of electricity systems in Sotavento Wind Farm

PROJECT/RECORD:

In the different phases of the setting up of a wind farm (design, contruction and assembly, starting and explotation) it is necessary the coordination between the great variety of enterprises (technologists, engeneering, fitters) in order to get a correct operation of the power station. In Sotavento, this diversity is emphasized by the presence of five different wind technologies with different systems of electric production.

In consequence, Sotavento has carried out a study about electrical infraestructures with the objective of placing the wind farm in optimun conditions for explotation.

PROJECT/OBJECTIVES:

The project tries to analyze, from an electrical point of view, the different electrical components of the BT, MT network, substation and 132 Kv line of the farm, allowing the stablisment of plans of action, design and maintenance:

  • Adaptation of the electrical control gear installed, insulation levels, networks of lands and measuring of the system of reagent compensation.
  • Study of selectivity of electric protections ata the different levels of tension.
  • Plan of preventive and corrective measures in the electric installations.
  • Performance, with reference to technology and farm, of the most important electromagnetic aspects.

PROJECT/METHODOLOGY (PHASES):

The works carried out in this project have been the following ones:

  • Supervision of engeneering as regards electric planes of operation. Analysis of: substation, lines, power wiring in wind turbines, selected protection in every wind turbine, adjustments implemented in the substation.
  • Supervision of general characteristics of the MT and AT control gear and verification of its appropriate measuring.
  • Supervision of the MT and AT protection adjustments. Study of selectivity from the calculation of monophase and triphase faults at different points of the farm. Lacks and possibilities of improvement.
  • Supervision of the installations under service with measurings, analyzing the values observed at every MT/AT point. There were carried out measurings at the groups of wind turbines in order to have basic information of the real performance of each group of generation system regarding active and reactive power.
  • Submission of definitive report.

PROJECT/COLLABORATORS:

The carrying out of the study has been in charge of Mr. Juan Rodriguez, with the material contribution of the universities of A Coruña and Vigo.

PROJECT/PRESENT SITUATION:

The project has been finished. The possible implementation of the improvements drawn from the conclusions of the report is under consideration.
