PROJECT/RECORD:

The big expansion of wind energy in our country nowadays (more than 5.500 Mw of power installed) has moved Spain into a worldwide dominant position in the energetic sector. Nevertheless, the intermittent nature of the wind resource makes the prediction of production difficult and so a better integration in the electric system.
Consiquently, it is necessary the use of advanced tools of prediction in order to make the gestion of wind energy and its competitiveness better, faciliting the operations of maintainance and contributing to their integration in the context of a deregulated electric market. An intense researching activity is being developed in this direction.
PROJECT/OBJECTIVES:

ANEMOS is an European project of R&D promoted by the European Comission under the protection of the 5th Framework Programme. Its objective is a detailed analysis of the state of the prediction techniques of wind power, through experimentation and comparative study of different options, for the development of ideal solutions to make the integration of wind production in the electric system easier.

PROJECT/METHODOLOGY (PHASES):

The different activities that will be carried out along the project are included in ten phases:
- State of the art. Valuation of necessities. Adquisition of facts and analysis.
- Valuation of existing techniques of prediction.
- Improvement and development of statistical models.
- Development of physical models.
- Prediction in off- shore farms.
- Development of the platform of prediction ANEMOS.
- Installation for on-line operation.
- Valuation of on-line operation.
- Dissemination of results.
- Coordination.
PROJECT/COLLABORATING ORGANISMS:

The main organisms with experience in wind predition participate in the project, the same as a selected group of promoters and electric enterprises, with the object of making the most of the benefits produced by the we of this prediction tool.
The coordination of the project was made by the School of Mines in Paris (ARMINES).
The spanish collaborators are IDAE, CIEMAT, CENER, EHN, The Carlos III University and REE.
Other collaborators are:
- EdF, ARIA Technologies, Meteo France and the School of Mines in Paris.
- RISOE, DTU, ELSAM in Denmark.
- Oldenburg Univ., EWE and Overspeed in Germany.
- ESB in Ireland.
- NTUA, PPC-Crete in Greece.
- CLRC in England.
PROJECT/PRESENT SITUATION:

The project is developing at the moment in the predicted phases (phases 1 and 2), compilation of facts and elaboration of software necessity.
